God Doesn’t Always Change the Road
Have you ever found yourself praying something like this?
“Lord, change my situation. Fix this relationship. Take away this burden. Open a different door.” Those are honest prayers, and there’s nothing wrong with bringing them to God. He invites us to cast every care upon Him. But have you noticed that sometimes the circumstances don’t change as quickly as we’d like?
Why?
Because God often chooses to do His greatest work within us before He works around us. Romans 12:2 reminds us that transformation comes through the renewing of our minds. God doesn’t begin by changing the road. He begins by changing the windshield.
Think about the cracked windshield from Sunday’s message. When the rock struck my windshield, it changed the way I saw the road. The road itself hadn’t changed. The lanes were still in the same place. The signs hadn’t moved. The destination hadn’t changed. But every glance through that crack reminded me something wasn’t right. Our minds can become like that cracked windshield.
Disappointment. Fear. Unforgiveness. Past failures. Unexpected loss. Each one has the potential to distort the way we see life. The good news is that God specializes in renewing minds. He doesn’t ask us to pretend the cracks aren’t there. He invites us to let His truth become stronger than our distortions. The more time we spend in God’s Word, the clearer our vision becomes. His truth doesn’t simply give us more information. It transforms the way we interpret everything we encounter.
Spend a few moments honestly considering these questions.
- What “crack” has most affected the way I see life right now?
- How has that experience influenced the way I think about God?
- Am I asking God only to change my circumstances, or am I asking Him to change me?
- What truth from God’s Word do I need to look through today?
Today’s Challenge
Before reacting to anything today, pause and ask:
“Am I looking through the crack, or through Christ?”
Don’t allow your emotions to become your interpreter. Choose to let God’s Word shape your response before your feelings do.
Remember Sunday’s Truth
The road didn’t change. The windshield did.
God’s goal isn’t simply to repair your circumstances. His desire is to renew your perspective so you can see His faithfulness even while you’re still on the journey.
