Yesterday Was Just the Beginning

Yesterday we talked about something that affects every area of our lives—our perspective. The truth is, two people can walk through the exact same circumstances and come away with completely different conclusions. One sees an obstacle. Another sees an opportunity. One sees defeat. Another sees God’s faithfulness. What makes the difference?
Perspective.
That’s why Romans 12:2 is so important. Paul reminds us that lasting transformation doesn’t begin with changing our behavior—it begins with allowing God to renew the way we think.
The way you see life shapes the way you live life. If your thoughts are filled with fear, you’ll struggle to walk in faith. If your thoughts are consumed with bitterness, forgiveness will always feel impossible. If your thoughts are shaped by God’s truth, your life will begin to reflect His peace, His wisdom, and His joy.
This week isn’t about trying harder. It’s about learning to see differently.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” – Romans 12:2
Digging Deeper
In the message yesterday I shared with you that the word “renewing” means to make new again or to restore. Think about that for a moment. God isn’t asking you to pretend your problems don’t exist. He’s inviting you to look at those problems through His truth instead of your fears. The enemy wants to shape your thinking through anxiety, disappointment, comparison, and lies. God wants to shape your thinking through His Word. Every day, someone or something is trying to influence the way you think.
The question isn’t whether your mind is being shaped. The question is who is shaping it?
Think back to Sunday’s message. Remember the cracked windshield? The road didn’t change. The windshield did. That’s true spiritually as well. Many times we spend our energy asking God to change what’s around us, while He’s lovingly working to change what’s happening within us. Sometimes the greatest miracle isn’t a changed circumstance. Sometimes it’s a renewed perspective.
Reflect
Take a few quiet moments and answer these questions honestly.
- What circumstance have I been asking God to change the most?
- Could God be trying to change the way I see that circumstance before He changes the circumstance itself?
- What thoughts have I believed recently that don’t line up with God’s Word?
- What truth from Scripture do I need to hold onto today?
Today’s Challenge
Throughout the day, every time you begin to worry, complain, or become frustrated, stop for just a moment and pray:
“Lord, help me see this the way You see it.”
Then ask yourself:
Am I reacting to this situation through my emotions…or through God’s truth?
Remember Sunday’s Truth
The road didn’t change. The windshield did. Before you interpret your day… Let God interpret it for you.
Looking Ahead
Tomorrow we’ll travel back to the Garden of Eden to answer a surprising question: How did our perspective become distorted in the first place? We’ll look back at how Satan’s first attack wasn’t against Eve’s behavior—it was against the way she viewed God.
