The Question of Authority

Scripture Focus:
“And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?” — Matthew 21:23

Reflection:
Tuesday was filled with confrontation. Religious leaders, feeling threatened by Jesus’ growing influence, demanded answers. “By what authority do You do these things?” they asked. But they weren’t seeking truth — they were protecting their control.

Jesus, unshaken, responded with wisdom, parables, and piercing questions. He exposed their hearts and challenged them to see the truth they refused to accept: He was the cornerstone they were rejecting.

Today, Jesus still challenges our assumptions, confronts our pride, and invites us to examine who truly holds authority in our lives. Will we submit to His voice or cling to our own control?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You have all authority in heaven and on earth — and yet You lead with gentleness and truth. Help me to surrender my own control and pride. Speak to my heart, and give me the humility to follow where You lead. Amen.

Takeaway Thought:
Following Jesus means letting go of control. Trust His authority — it’s always rooted in love and truth.
