The Cleansing of the Temple
Scripture Focus:
“Whether of them twain did the will of [his] father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.”— Matthew 21:13
Reflection:
On the day after His triumphant entry, Jesus entered the temple — and what He saw broke His heart and stirred His righteous anger. The outer courts, meant for worship and prayer, had become a marketplace. What was sacred had been sold out.
With holy authority, Jesus overturned tables and drove out those who exploited worshipers. It was more than a moment of anger — it was a call to realign the heart of God’s people.
Holy Monday asks us to look inward: Have we allowed distractions, selfish motives, or compromise to crowd out God’s presence? Jesus doesn’t just want to visit our hearts — He wants to cleanse them.
Prayer:
Lord, cleanse my heart today. Show me anything that doesn’t belong — anything that robs You of the worship You deserve. Make my life a house of prayer, where You are honored above all else. Remove what is false. Restore what is holy. Amen.
Takeaway Thought:
Jesus cleanses not to condemn, but to restore. Let Him overturn anything in your life that keeps you from fully worshiping Him.
